......January,
2002: Martin Luther King Day Celebration......
CTCSF,
in partnership with Augustana College, created a special day for
junior high school students.
The day was the kick-off for a semester long mentoring project pairing
Augustana College students
with local junior high school students in the hope of fostering
the values which Martin Luther King taught about equality, justice
and character. As a catalyst for the dialogue throughout the day,
CTCSF presented Aurand Harris's play STEAL AWAY HOME, which
tells the story of two young boys traveling along the "Underground
Railroad." Featuring a largely African American cast of local
actors, the production reminded our community of the lessons learned
from our past which we must remember
in order to create a better future. |

14, 2003: Girls' Day Out......
Sponsored
by Children's Home, Children's Inn, Augustana College, and Sioux
Valley Hospital, this one day event showed 200 Sioux Falls third
through sixth grade girls why it is "Divine Being A Girl!"
Starting with a performance of Tomato Plant Girl, by Wesley
Middleton, the girls spent the day in workshops with volunteers
from the community and Augustana College. These carefully designed
workshops infocused on empowering the girls as individuals and showing
them the true meaning of friendship.

2003: On the Front Porch at the Pettigrew Museum......
On
the lawn, just outside the front door stands a man looking a bit
out of place. Local actor Wyatt Yager played Mr. Pettigrew for the
Home and Museum's "On the Front Porch" arts series, telling
stories of the dam he built at Falls Park that put Sioux Falls on
the map. These interactive stories brought audience members to the
stage to create a working car, a waterfall, a baseball game and
a live buffalo hunt to make history come to life right before our
very eyes! |
